Released in January 2024, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is Samsung’s latest smartphone in its coveted ‘S’ series. There are other variants with S24 tags, but this particular mobile device is in its own dimension that seems far away from its peers. Only a handful of smartphones could come close to it. It comes with a certain style and smugness that perpetuates all across the mobile device spectrum. But it is not just all flair and vanity as this smart device is full of substance.

At first glance itself, the variability of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is noticeable. Its glimpse is alluring and yet intimidating. It seems that some sculpture has fashioned it in a perfect and marked rectangular shape with striking corners. It looks compact & bulky but is not very heavy to hold. At the back, one can see camera lenses, aligned in two distinct columns. At the front, the mesmerizing display comes with a very thin bezel and a completely flat screen. A punch-hole selfie camera can be seen in the middle of the front screen.

The frame of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is made of grade 2 titanium which can be 99% pure titanium. This type of titanium is lightweight yet stable with amazing corrosion resistance properties. The front and the back are equipped with Corning Gorilla Armor which provides formidable protection to the screen. Compared to its peers and competitors, the screen is less reflective and soothing to the eyes.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra weighs around 235 grams and has a thickness of 0.86 cm. Due to the thin bezel, the display screen occupies 89% of the front side. An encapsulated stylus pen can be found at the bottom left corner of the phone. The stylus pen comes out with a click and can perform multiple tasks. The stylus pen provides a good way to navigate the screen along with the usual fingertips and provides auxiliary movements that enhance maneuverability.

The smartphone has an IP68 rating for water resistance and dust protection. While the toughened armor Gorilla glass protects the phone from the damage of falling into the ground, the IP68 rating protects it from the damage of getting submerged in the water (well at least for 30 minutes).

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra box comes with a C to C Data USB cable, a SIM ejector, and an embedded Stylus Pen. Unfortunately, it does not provide a charging cable which has to be purchased separately.

As mentioned earlier, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a flat-screen with conoid vertexes that make the screen appear even flatter. The screen has almost 89% space on the front side. When an image is displayed or a video is being played, it almost seems that the thin bezel has disappeared in the thin air. The display is an impressive 6.8-inch, low-temperature-polycrystalline-oxide (LTPO), dynamic AMLODE screen. It has an impressive maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz which dynamically adjusts itself according to the content.

The low-temperature-polycrystalline-oxide or LTPO technology allows the display to adjust the refresh rate at very high or low levels depending on the variability of the same multimedia content. It means that in the same video or game, LTPO technology will reduce or boost the refresh rate depending on what is being played on the screen. Although LTPO technology drives up the price, it allows for better power conservation, better battery life, and a thinner display & phone.

The display of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, a maximum resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels, and 505 PPI (Pixels per inch). These features, along with High Dynamic Range (HDR)10+, make the colors on the screen vibrant, vigorous, and vivid. The highest nits that this smartphone comes with is 2600. The display of Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra adjusts with the brightness of the environment and allows for a good viewing experience even in a bright environment. The same video content or game appears almost identical even if the users switch the environment with variable luminosity.

The display of this Samsung smartphone is appreciated with continuous usage in variable environments and brightness. The images, be they high resolution, standard, or even low resolution, appear vibrant and full of colors. The HDR10+ techniques make even the low-resolution colors appear alive with adjustable contrast, saturation, and hue levels. The movies and videos of all resolutions and quality give an enhanced and heightened feel with adjustable brightness and refresh rate. The high-intensity video games come alive with surrounding sound and vivid display. The transitions are smooth and hardly give any glitches.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also has a low ‘Total Power Dissipation’ (TPD) of 6.3 Watts. A low ‘Total Power Dissipation’ means that the processor dissipates a low amount of heat in a normal active situation. Of course, during high-intensity usage, the amount of heat dissipation will go up and during low-intensity usage, the heat dissipation will go down. Still, a TPD of 6.3 Watts means that the processor has longevity and is good for the overall health of the smartphone. It also means that the phone has low power consumption and will heat up less frequently. This feature allows for faster accomplishment of various tasks without lagging. It also enables better battery life, better performance, and low instances of freezing.

The chipset comes with an integrated Adreno 750 which has a maximum clock speed of 0.90 GHz. For FP32 or Single-Precision-Floating-Point-Format, it has 2.29 TFLOPS. It means that the Adreno 750 GPU, on average, could perform 2.29 Trillion Floating-Point computations, allowing for faster execution of various tasks and smooth multitasking. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra runs on Android 14 version and has One UI 6.1. Samsung will allow users a 7-year window for updating and upgrading the Android operating system, One UI, and necessary security patches. This will enable the device to remain viable for a long time, saving money and contributing a little bit to the dream of a green Earth.

Samsung’s One UI 6.1 offers improved functionality and convenience compared to the previous versions. The user interface integrates Samsung’s inbuilt AI features. Together with the CPU, the AI functionality works smoothly. The transition between various tasks is fluid. Executing tasks through various apps is effortless and multitasking is a breeze. Editing high-definition images or videos can be done without any hiccups. Playing high-intensity games is plain sailing. The embedded Stylus pen enhances the usability. The Stylus pen has its own battery and can connect to the phone via Bluetooth. This allows the pen to be used remotely using pre-determined motions.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is fitted with a 5000 milliampere-hour (mAh) Lithium-ion battery. It is an internally fitted battery that can not be removed from the outside. For only normal usage (Calling, texting, social media, etc) the battery may last up to 72 hours while it will last 18-20 hours for continuous heavy usage (video playback, games, camera, recoding, etc). The AI features and camera usage may drain the battery faster. Continuous games can be played for up to 10 hours.

The 5000 mAh is a pretty standard battery for smartphones although the battery life does not depend exclusively on the score of mAh. For example, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max has a battery of 4500 mAh and still beats (albeit by a small margin) the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in terms of both normal, active, and gaming usage parameters. On the other hand, some other premium phones, such as Xiaomi 14 Ultra (5000 mAh), Google Pixel 8 Pro (5050 mAh), and OnePlus 12R (5500 mAh), clocks either similar or slightly less battery life.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra provides both wired and wireless charging options. The wired charging provides 45 Watt option while the Wireless one provides 15 Watt option. The Samsung smartphone also has a Wireless reverse charging (4.5 Watt) option through which other smart devices can be charged wirelessly. As mentioned earlier, the box does not include the wired charging cable and it had to be purchased separately. The wired charging option has fast charging that can charge the phone from 0% to 60% in 30 minutes. The next 40% may take 50-60 minutes to charge.

For a premium range smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra provides a decent battery life and charging options. However, there are other premium smartphones in the same price range that provide slightly better battery life and much faster charging options.
